Error Code 0x30000030 is a client-side error that occurs when HackShield is unable to successfully connect to the update server to check for the latest HackShield update.

There are a large variety of causes ranging from firewalls to improper Internet Explorer settings, and all of the known solutions for these causes are listed below.

Solutions

Antivirus or Firewall

Your anti-virus, firewall, or other security program(s) may be blocking HackShield from working correctly.

Please note: Although you may have made an exception for HackShield in the past, it is possible that an update changed enough so that it is no longer recognized by your security software.

Temporarily disable such programs as a test to see if there is a setting that needs to be adjusted for HackShield to run properly.

If disabling worked, it is recommended that you properly add HackShield to the exceptions or ignore list for that security program.

"Work Offline" Mode

Internet Explorer may be in "Work Offline" mode.

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Under "File" on the top menu bar select "Work Offline" (so that it is no longer checked or enabled).

HackShield uses Internet Explorer for port 80 networking and updates regardless if you personally use another web browser. If you are unable to access the internet using Internet Explorer, HackShield will not be able to update.

Internet Explorer "Proxy" mode.

Internet Explorer may be set to run in "Proxy" mode.

  1. Open the "Start" menu
  2. Open the Control Panel
  3. Open "Internet Options" (you may have to set it to icon view mode to find it)
  4. Select the "Connections" tab
  5. Click the "LAN settings" button
  6. Un-check "Use a Proxy server for your LAN [...]"

Reset Winsock and DNS Cache

Try a Winsock reset and flush your DNS cache.

For Windows XP:
  1. Press "Windows Key" + "R"
  2. Type "cmd.exe" in the box and click "OK"
  3. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  4. Then type "netsh winsock reset" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  5. Reboot your PC.
For Windows Vista / 7:
  1. In the start menu search bar, type "cmd"
  2. Right Click "cmd.exe" and select "Run as administrator"
  3. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  4. Then type "netsh winsock reset" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  5. Reboot your PC.

Improper Hosts File Address

Your Windows hosts file may be telling Windows to redirect the HackShield and guard.nexon.net connections to an incorrect or outdated address.

As the official addresses may change without you knowing, it is not recommended that you lock-in an address for the HackShield update within your hosts file.

  • Open your hosts file. (typically found in: "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\")

The file may be hidden as it is a protected system file. Read: Show Hidde Files And Folders for more information.

  • Right-Click on the file named "hosts" and chose "Open With" from the list.
  • Select "Notepad" from the list
  • If you see the address of "guard.nexon.net", "hackshield.maplesea.com", or anything in there that could be associated with HackShield or Nexon included in the list of address redirects, remove that line and save the hosts file.

Note: Unless you have specifically added something to the hosts file for whatever reason, there should be nothing in that file that does not have a "#" symbol in front of it other than possibly localhost.

Note For Windows 7 / Vista users:

You may not have permission to save the file. To work around this:

  • Save the hosts file you edited to your "My Documents" folder or desktop.
  • Go back to the original hosts file and rename it to "hostsback"
  • Copy/Cut the one you saved in your "My Documents" folder or desktop to your "System32\drivers\etc\" folder where the original hosts file was located so that your newly saved hosts files.

Damaged HackShield Files

Reinstalling HackShield

Your HackShield files may be damaged.

Refer to Reinstalling HackShield for a replacement copy for your HackShield folder.

Read-Only Mode

HSUpdate.exe and it's files may be set for "Read Only" mode, which prevents it from updating

  • Navigate to your HShield folder found in your game installation directory using Windows Explorer. (Typically "C:\Nexon\[Game Directory]\HShield")'
  • Right-Click on "HSUpdate.exe" and select "Properties"
  • Un-Check the box for "Read Only" and click "OK"

Reinstall the Game

You may simply have to reinstall the current version of the game. It is recommended that you Manually Download the game installation files to avoid any hassle.
